At the height of his show career, this beautiful Appaloosa’s majestic stature, strength, and willingness to work made him the perfect partner. But when an injury cost Joey his show career, he moved from one owner to the next, ultimately experiencing severe abuse and neglect. A rescue group found Joey nearly dead from starvation—and blind.

Then he came to Hope Reins—a ranch dedicated to helping hurting kids who had been abused, emotionally wounded, or unwanted. By teaching these children to care for rescued animals, the Hope Reins staff were convinced they could reach kids with love and hope and show them that we are never forgotten by God.

But could the financially struggling ranch afford to take care of a blind horse that no one else wanted? Could Joey somehow learn to trust people even though the world had hurt him so badly? And what would happen—to Joey, the kids, and Hope Reins—if they failed.

This book will have you going through many emotions.  It will make you mad, you will be laughing, and you will be crying.  You get to the point that you love Joey and his friend Speckles.  How Speckles helped Joey just warmed my heart.  With this being a true story, it meant that much more.  The faith that everyone has at Hope Reins is remarkable.  The ones who didn’t have faith, ended up getting it, which is even better.  Jennifer Bleakley did an awesome job in bringing out the personalities of all involved, not just Joey.

Are you showing yourself friendly?  Do you want friends?  Those are two good questions for today.  Let me ask another question:  What kind of friends do you like?

There are negative people and there are positive people.  We are drawn to the kind of people that we are like.  I know I don’t like people who say they are my friend and keep talking me down.  They won’t be my friend much longer if they keep that up.  Complainers and gossips I put in the category of negative people.  Gossips have the need to spread rumors to make them feel good.  They are insecure.   But on the other hand, encouragers are the ones who love the Lord with all their heart.  That just seems to be the trend.  They know they have a future with Him and will encourage others to have that future, too.

Now what does it mean that there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother?  Well, I can tell you, I have 4 brothers.  But, I have friends I would tell anything to.  I trust them with my life.  But my brothers?  Well, let’s just say, sibling rivalry can put a rift in any relationship.  But, my best friend?  Jesus.  I can tell Him anything and He won’t be turned away.  He is always there when I need someone.  He will do anything for me.  But, He also expects me to do my part.  And what is my part?  To obey the Word.

So, let’s make this easy.  To have a friend, be a friend.  Not grudgingly, but lovingly.  Be an encourager to someone today.

What does this mean living according to the flesh?  That was one of the hardest things for me to grasp as a new Christian.  Flesh is skin and bones – isn’t it?  Well, yes and no.  According to the flesh in the Bible is living according to the way you want to live, not God’s ways.  So, how do you put those desires to death?  First by prayer.  Prayer is always key in changing the way you have been to what you need to be.  You need divine guidance in this.  The next step is to stop doing what you are doing.  What?  You have got to be kidding me!  No way!  Yeah way.  If you want to live, you need to put those old habits, old desires down and never pick them back up again.  Let me be real here, I still struggle with this.  I have been a Christian since 1978, and I still struggle.  It’s not easy.  But the rewards are great!  To be close to God is the most awesome thing there is.

But here’s the clincher.  If you are led by the Spirit of God, you are sons (and daughters) of God.  I have a saying.  God, my Abba, is King of the universe.  So, that makes me a princess.  I tell the devil that I am the princess of the Most High King.  Hands off!  You know, that works!  He knows that I know who I am and Who’s I am.  Yeah, he continues to try to make me trip.  And sometimes I do.  But I remind myself that I am a princess.  Guys, that means you are princes of the Most High.  Now how awesome is that?

So, I like you to realize who you are in Christ.  By His Spirit, you can walk as the princes and princesses that you are.  You are royalty!

Be still.  Patience.  How hard that can be.  How can be wait patiently.  I want it now!  Yes, we live in the microwave generation.  We are so used to waiting just a few minutes and we have what we need or want.  But that is not God’s way.  He works diligently on our patience.  Our patience wanes – especially when we see those who do not love our Lord getting what we want!  How dare they get all the money!  How dare they get that job that was just suited for me!  They lie, they cheat, and they get everything!  But, in terms of eternity, did they?  Just think of it from that view for a moment.  You will be in eternal “wonderful” for ever and ever.  And them?  Well, let’s just say it definitely will not be wonderful.  In fact, quite the opposite.

Let’s not falter in our patience in our Lord.  He knows just when you need something, and does not need to send it our way before we need it.  His timing is perfect.  He is never late.

So, let us be still.  Get into His presence today.

Humble yourself under God’s mighty hand.  How can that be done?  Won’t He squash me?  Humble, submit.  It all comes under the heading of obedience.  Yes, we want to be lifted up.  We want to rise above the enemy.  But first, we need to humble ourselves.  How can we do that?  Become as innocent as a child.  Take everything that God says to you.  Believe every Word he says.

This next part everyone knows.  Cast all your anxiety on Him.  Cast it out as if casting out your fishing line.  Throw out that care.  Throw out that problem.  Throw out that sickness.  Throw out that poverty.  Everything that is on your plate right now – throw that out.  God will catch it.  Now when you go fishing, you throw out that line with bait on it.  But when you draw it back, there’s a fish on the end of that line.  Well, same way with God.  You throw out that problem to God.  He takes it and replaces it with hope, forgiveness, healing, prosperity.  Yes, sometimes there’s something to be obedient about first.  Just sometimes we have to do something.  But, you know, that’s okay.  That means He trusts us enough to get the job done.

Why would He trust us with that?  Like the end of the verse says:  He cares for you.  He cares enough for you to not just give you what you want or need.  He care enough for you to give you a task to do to allow you to grow in the meantime.

Let us all cast your cares on Him.  Let us humble ourselves to be obedient to what He wants us to do.  Do all of this because He cares for us and wants us to grow mightily in Him!

1 John 5 4

Do you want to be an overcomer?  Where is your faith?

These are two very good questions.  I can pretty much answer the first question.  Everyone wants to be an overcomer.  They don’t want to go through troubles.

So, if we are born of God – His born again children, we should be overcomers.  We should not let any of the troubles of this world get us down.

But how do we overcome?  By our faith.  So, let’s get to the truth of the matter:  Do you really believe – deep down inside – that what the Bible says is true for you?  Do you believe that there is salvation?  That’s an easy one.  Everyone would say yes to that.  But do you really know what is in salvation?  Deliverance, healing, salvation, prosperity.  Anything you are in need of, it is there.

So, what is holding you back?  Knowing that Jesus came to deliver you from every problem, why are you not stepping into His provision?  Are you living in faith or fear?  Fear is faith in the devil and his torments.  Well, I for one, am not going to let him get away with that.  Yes, he will bring the thoughts to your mind, but you need to cast them down.

Casting down imaginations          casting_down_imaginations

I always tell people when I talk about 2 Corinthians 10:5 that to cast is like casting your line when you are fishing.  You cast out that worm (the bad thoughts, etc.) and bring back the fish (all from God).  You say it can’t be that easy.  Well, it is.

I pray that today is your overcoming day!

amish quilter cover

Linda Mueller lives an orderly, uneventful existence, content to divide her time between creating the beautiful quilts for which she is known and working at an Englisch fabric shop.

Idealistic to a fault, Linda has never found a man worth marrying—until she meets Isaac Mast, a newcomer to Lancaster County and a talented painter. As they bond over their respective crafts, Linda is drawn to Isaac’s kind ways, humble spirit, and intriguing personality, and soon the seams of her carefully-constructed world begin to loosen.

With Isaac’s help, she explores the story of her late grandmother, also a gifted artist. But when an astonishing truth comes to light, Linda faces a grave decision, one that could destroy any hope of a future with Isaac. Will their dreams of a life together completely unravel? Or can she find some way to stitch them back together again?

I really got caught up in this book about Linda and Isaac.  It is a mystery/romance, which happens to be some of my favorites.  I wanted to tell and shake her to get rid of her idealism about “the perfect man” for a husband.  The Knight in Shining Armor is only in fairy tales.  But it takes going through the mystery of finding her grandmother was a twin and getting to know the whole background of that side of the family that no-one knew about.  Through that, everyone’s lives got changed – and for the better.

The Amish Quilter is a joint effort of two authors:  Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould.

Mindy Starns Clark is the bestselling author of more than 30 books, both fiction and nonfiction, and has received numerous literary honors, including two Christy Awards and RT Book Reviews 2012 Career Achievement Award. Mindy and her husband, John, have two adult children and live near Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

Leslie Gould is the best-selling and award-winning author of thirty novels. She loves traveling, research, Shakespeare’s plays, and church history. She and her husband live in Portland, Oregon and are the parents of four children.

How big is your God?  That sounds like a stupid question, doesn’t it?  But it isn’t.  It’s loaded!  So, let’s think about that for a moment.  We talk about God being able to do this and that and everything.  But, can he do it for you?  OK.  You say He can, but you’re not sure He will.  Well, let me quiet that voice for you right now.  HE WILL!!!!!

How do I know He will?  Because He has for me.  I used to have asthma.  He healed me of that.  I used to be suicidal.  He got me through that.  I was lost in sin and headed for hell.  He forgave me and saved me from hell.  Jesus gave His ALL for us.  He gave up His standing in heaven to take on every sin of ours and forgive us.  Not just that, He took those stripes for our healing.  Not just that, but that crown of thorns?  That happens for our healing of the mind.  He did EVERYTHING for us!  And what’s more?  He went to hell for us!  What?  Yes!  He went to hell in our place.  I can’t even fathom that, but He did.  There’s even more.  He didn’t stay there.  He rose from the dead to tell us there is a resurrection…a resurrection from the dead.  Our bodies will not stay dead, but will rise.

When our bodies die, we are more alive than we have ever been!!!!

Now with knowing all this, is there anything He can’t do?  I dare say No!  So, I ask you again, how big is Your God?

This is one of my favorite scriptures.  But yet, I have quite a few favorites.  But this, ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God.  It is like looking in a mirror.  You see your flaws.  But, don’t only see your flaws, but work those flaws out.

Another aspect of this is that the Scripture was written over many decades.  But the subject of this Book is the same.  The Old Testament had you looking forward to Jesus.  The New Testament was Jesus.  Now how cool is that?  On top of this, none of the writers really knew each other!  You think Paul knew Moses?  No.  He knew about him, but he didn’t know him!

Another observation is ALL Scripture – inspiration by God.  To me, that doesn’t mean you have to use the King James Bible only.  There are many versions and many translations out there.  Take use of them!  I am one who does not understand KJV very well at all.  But, give me NIV or NLT, I understand what God is trying to get across.  You have to realize that when the KJV was written, they talked different.  They used the thee’s and thou’s.  That was their vernacular.  If you try to speak that out in the open today, people will tell you to stop quoting the Bible.  Paraphrase it!  It is all God-breathed.  It is all inspired.  It just makes it easier to understand.

Prairie Moon cover

Abigail Brantley grew up in affluence and knows exactly how to behave in high society. But when she is cast from the social registers due to her father’s illegal dealings, she finds herself forced into a role she never imagined: tutoring rough Kansas ranchers in the subjects of manners and morals so they can “marry up” with their mail-order brides. Mack Cleveland, whose father was swindled by a mail-order bride, wants no part of the scheme to bring Eastern women to Spiveyville, Kansas, and he’s put off by the snooty airs and fastidious behavior of the “little city gal” in their midst. But as time goes by, his heart goes out to the teacher who tries so diligently to smooth the rough edges from the down-to-earth men. How can he teach her that perfection won’t bring happiness

This was a very enjoyable book.  You really got into the lives of all in here:  Abigail, Mack, Helena, Mr. Patterson…even the Sheriff.  As in all books, there is one person you actually begin to not like.  That was Mr. Nance.  With this set in the 1800’s, their talk was a little different than it is now.  Of course, you had the rich trying to teach your country folk manners to receive their wives.  Back then you paid someone to match you up with a spouse.  I call this book a prairie/western along with a mystery and romance all put into one.  That is what made it so enjoyable.  It wasn’t just a Western.  You had other aspects to it.  Kim Vogel Sawyer has a wonderful flair in presenting to her audience a wonderful story that does not neglect the Gospel message.

Award-winning, bestselling author Kim Vogel Sawyer has over 1.5 million books in print. Kim’s passion is writing stories about what happens when people place their lives in God’s hands. She enjoys teaching at writing conferences and is active in her church’s music ministry. Kim lives in Kansas with her husband
