THE WOMEN WHO MET JESUS

Women who met Jesus cover

This was quite an enjoyable book.  You have different types of writing all together.  You have where Dorothy Valcarcel writes a story of an experience of either her, her family, or a friend that goes with the scripture for that chapter.  You then have a fictionalized version of what could have happened to go with that scripture.  Then you have the devotional that helps you learn how to act/react to similar situations.  At the end of each chapter are questions to ask yourself.  This helps you to dig deep within yourself, but at the same time, to identify with the person Dorothy is talking about in that chapter.  All in all, I recommend this.  I could not go through this quickly, as it made me go deep within myself and want to change, which is the better.

Though they seem worlds apart from us, the women of New Testament times had similar heartaches and desires. They too experienced ambition, worry, brokenness, loneliness, and insecurity. They may have wondered how some unusual man from Galilee could possibly understand their needs. And then they met him.
Rather than trivializing their problems or ignoring women, Jesus responded to their deepest needs. He reminded them of their value and transformed their past, present, and future. This engaging book recounts eighteen of their powerful true stories and shows that when a woman encounters Jesus, she cannot help but be changed forever.

Dorothy Valcárcel has a 35-year career working with charitable organizations worldwide. That work, along with her own personal struggle to overcome challenging disabilities, is the catalyst for TransformationGarden.com–a global website designed to encourage women in their walk with Jesus. Her daily devotionals are also featured on Crosswalk.com.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for this review.

I’m often looking for a good devotional. I’ll have to look for this next time.
