CHASING DREAMS

This was a very good book – especially if you like love stories with a hint of Christianity thrown in.  This is about Jo and Luke.  Jo is a sister to Phee and Britt, who are setting up and running a BNB.  Luke works at a radio station and is a Big Brother to Mateo, who’s mother recently passed away.  Mateo’s mother asked Luke to be legal guardian to Mateo, which went through just before she passed away.  Jo also worked at the lawyer’s office that handled the matter.  So that explains how the two slightly met.

Meanwhile, Phee is marrying Quinn and Jo is the wedding planner.  There is a beautiful clearing at the BNB property, so the wedding happens there.  Luke also happens to be a DJ and Jo hires him.  This is where the plot thickens.  Luke and Jo get to really liking each other, but Luke has baggage – Mateo.  Does Jo want to get into a relationship where there is a 12 year old included?  This is where you come in.  You will need to read this book and find out all the details – including an old boyfriend of Jo’s showing up.

Joanna Chandler always dreamed of becoming an attorney. But when she left law school to help care for her dying mother, stepping away from her single-minded pursuit gave her space to reconsider. The only question is, if not law, what should she do with her life?
To keep her mind off an uncertain future, Joanna helps her older sister, Phylicia, throw an amazing outdoor wedding on the charming Missouri property the three Chandler sisters own together. That’s when she realizes wedding planning could be a thriving business of its own. And Lukas Blaine, the handsome wedding DJ, opens her mind to the possibility of love on the horizon.
But there’s more to Luke than meets the eye. The young boy he’s been mentoring has lost his mother and become Luke’s ward. Mateo is sullen and angry and needs constant attention. How can Luke possibly find the time to start a new relationship or saddle someone else with a wounded child? He may have to let go of the woman of his dreams–and crush her dreams at the same time.

Deb Raney

Deborah Raney’s first novel, A Vow to Cherish, inspired the World Wide Pictures film of the same title. Deborah and her husband, Ken, traded small-town life in Kansas–the setting of many of Deb’s novels–for life in the city of Wichita. They love traveling to teach at writers conferences across the country and to visit their four children and a growing brood of grandchildren (who all live much too far away).

DISCERNMENT

13 12 2019

Discernment_Jane-Hamon_1

This is a very interesting book that needs to be read slowly so you can digest what is being said.  I call this a study book and I have highlighted many areas in here.  To learn to discern the voice of God is very important in the Christian life and Jane Hamon has a way of putting it so you can understand.  One thing that really jumped out at me was a quote she did from James Goll’s book, The Discerner: every follower of Jesus receives the gifts of revelation and discernment and every believer needs to use them.  That alone, right there, could be a sermon.  We need to realize that we can step into that gift whenever it is needed.  There is so much in this book that were eye-openers, that you will need to read to discover them.

We are living in such critical times today that it is imperative for believers to learn to use every tool given to us by the Holy Spirit. We are called to be kingdom influencers–to discern the times in which we live, to discern the moves of the Holy Spirit, and to discern angels and demons.
With extensive expertise and personal experience, prophetic leader Jane Hamon takes a deep dive, biblically and practically, into one of the least known and most unused gifts of the Holy Spirit.  This book will help you operate in greater spiritual authority and walk in wisdom as you help build God’s kingdom on earth.

MISLEADING MISS VERITY

4 12 2019

(A TANGLED WEB)

Verity cover

Misleading Miss Verity was a little difficult for me to get into, but once I did, I could not put it down.  So I will give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars.  Miss Verity is a viscount’s daughter from England.  She is mischievous and does not behave like a ‘lady’ should in 1820.  She is considered a ‘mistake’ by her parents and feels most unloved.  When she is found riding a horse, even though it was on their property, she gets shipped to Grandmama’s home.  It then becomes known through a letter that Verity is to be betrothed to a man she has no wants to be with, so Grandmama sends her to Scotland to Verity’s school friend, Helena.  Across from them, the new viscount has moved in and Verity and Mr. Jardine become friends, if not more.  With the betrothal looming close, will Verity’s parents find her?  If they do, will Mr. Jardine come to her rescue?  Will Anthony Jardine and Verity be able to have a life together?  All of this and more will be answered as you read this book!

Verity Hatherleigh has a mind of her own—but her actions do not impress her viscount papa. When she gets into one scrape too many, he sends her off to the wilds of Scotland to rethink her headstrong ways.
Anthony Jardine relished his role as curate, but his new duties as laird of Dungally aren’t always to his liking. Though he thought his new inheritance would be a blessing, somehow he’s finding nothing but trouble on these estates. And the intelligent, compassionate, feisty lass who was sent to rusticate in his territory is one of the biggest problems. He’s falling in love with her, but she doesn’t share the faith that’s his foundation—not to mention he’s been lying to her about who he really is. For the truth-loving Verity, that may be unforgivable.
The tangled web these two have woven may spell disaster for their happiness—and for the tenants of Dungally.
