OF FIRE AND LIONS

This is a book that kept me glued to it!  This goes through the book of Daniel, but with a human interest twist; what possibly went on behind the scenes.  The main characters are Daniel and Bilili (Abigail).  A lot of this story has to do with Abigail.  We start at the point of the exodus from Jerusalem to Babylon.  Daniel, with his three friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, were princes in Jerusalem.  Abigail, who is also one who is being sent to Babylon, was put into the care of the four princes.  Daniel took it upon himself to protect Abigail, who was just a young girl.  Their love for each other grew from there, but there are many obstacles that keep them apart.  Will they ever get together?  If they do, will they remain loyal to Yahweh?  You will need to read the book to find the answers to these questions and more.

Survival. A Hebrew girl first tasted it when she escaped death nearly seventy years ago as the Babylonians ransacked Jerusalem and took their finest as captives. She thought she’d perfected in the many years amongst the Magoi and the idol worshippers, pretending with all the others in King Nebuchadnezzar’s court. Now, as Daniel’s wife and a septuagenarian matriarch, Belili thinks she’s safe and she can live out her days in Babylon without fear–until the night Daniel is escorted to Belshazzar’s palace to interpret mysterious handwriting on a wall. The Persian Army invades, and Bellili’s tightly-wound secrets unfurl with the arrival of the conquering army. What will the reign of Darius mean for Daniel, a man who prays to Yahweh alone?
Ultimately, Yahweh’s sovereign hand guides Jerusalem’s captives, and the frightened Hebrew girl is transformed into a confident woman, who realizes her need of the God who conquers both fire and lions.

Trust.  Delight.  Commit.  Three powerful words right here together.  And that represent what we must do.

We must trust our Lord explicitly.  He is our all in all. He will never fail us. He will never leave us.  He will always be there, no matter what we do.  I don’t know anyone else like that.

Delight in Him.  Be excited to be in His presence.  Want to do things for Him.

Commit to do whatever He wants us to do.  The benefits are all so much better if we do.

Life will be so much better if we lived by this Word.

GOD’S GOOD NEWS

god's good news cover

This was a very good book, which does the stories Genesis to Revelation. I did not agree with all of Dr. Graham’s assessments of the scriptures, but we all have different interpretations of the Bible, which is why I gave it a 4-star. Other than that, it was very good. They said this was for 4-11 year olds. I would say that 4 year olds would not understand most of it. Also, I believe all pre-teens would enjoy this.

This had just about every “story” from the Bible. Scott Wakefield did an awesome job with the illustrations. They made the “stories” come alive.

Invite the children you love to experience God through powerful stories from the Bible. They will imagine the walls of water in the parted Red Sea, figure out why Joseph chose to forgive his brothers, read about a paralyzed man Jesus healed, and discover God’s exciting plan for their lives. Most of all, this Bible storybook helps children understand God’s incredible love for them. Each story is equipped with a takeaway devotion from Rev. Graham. The takeaways will help children focus on God’s Word, apply it to their lives, and begin walking with God and sharing the good news from an early age.
With Bible stories told in actual Bible text, this storybook teaches that God loves us, saves us from our sin, and invites us into a new life with Him. Each entry includes the wisdom of Billy Graham, who spent his life helping people all over the world understand and respond in faith to the love and mercy of Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that God loves us, and that is good news!

100 BIBLE STORIES FOR CHILDREN

30 06 2018

bible stories cover

Instill a deep love of the narrative of the Bible in your children’s hearts with this richly illustrated storybook. 100 Bible Stories for Children uses beautiful, traditional art and clear language to teach children ages 5 to 8 one hundred of the best-loved stories from the Bible, and it includes a ribbon to mark your place. The detailed illustrations will captivate your children as you read with them at bedtime or at Sunday school, and independent readers will return again and again to learn the stories of the heroes of the faith. You and your family will treasure this classic collection of Bible stories.

I was a little disappointed in this book, as I felt as if the stories themselves needed to be expounded.  What they emitted or condensed completely changed what had really happened.  I feel as if they needed to be more true to what the Word says.  I understand that they did this for children, but I would prefer the children know what happened correctly.  So, that is why I gave a 3 out of 5 stars.
