GOD’S GOOD NEWS

10 01 2019

god's good news cover

This was a very good book, which does the stories Genesis to Revelation. I did not agree with all of Dr. Graham’s assessments of the scriptures, but we all have different interpretations of the Bible, which is why I gave it a 4-star. Other than that, it was very good. They said this was for 4-11 year olds. I would say that 4 year olds would not understand most of it. Also, I believe all pre-teens would enjoy this.

This had just about every “story” from the Bible. Scott Wakefield did an awesome job with the illustrations. They made the “stories” come alive.

Invite the children you love to experience God through powerful stories from the Bible. They will imagine the walls of water in the parted Red Sea, figure out why Joseph chose to forgive his brothers, read about a paralyzed man Jesus healed, and discover God’s exciting plan for their lives. Most of all, this Bible storybook helps children understand God’s incredible love for them. Each story is equipped with a takeaway devotion from Rev. Graham. The takeaways will help children focus on God’s Word, apply it to their lives, and begin walking with God and sharing the good news from an early age.
With Bible stories told in actual Bible text, this storybook teaches that God loves us, saves us from our sin, and invites us into a new life with Him. Each entry includes the wisdom of Billy Graham, who spent his life helping people all over the world understand and respond in faith to the love and mercy of Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that God loves us, and that is good news!

JESUS CALLING: THE STORY OF CHRISTMAS

8 11 2018

Jesus Calling Cover

Jesus Calling®: The Story of Christmas uniquely teaches the Christmas story to your children by starting at creation and sharing that Jesus has always been present and that God has always had a plan for Christmas. Bible verses and Jesus Calling devotions are on every spread of this beautifully illustrated book with foil and glitter on the cover.

Teach your children the story of Christmas . . . starting from creation! In Jesus Calling®: The Story of Christmas, children will discover that God always had a plan for Christmas.

Christ was chosen before the world was made.

—1 Peter 1:20

The Christmas story began long, long ago. Before the angel Gabriel told Mary she would have God’s Son. Before the shepherds saw the angels and before the wise men saw the star.

From the beginning of time, God had a plan to save his children. That plan was Jesus!

This was enjoyable from cover to cover.  There are 13 small devotions for kids.  The pictures are very well done to cover what Sarah Young is trying to bring across.  This begins before the earth was ever formed and goes through when Joseph and Mary moved with Jesus to Nazareth.  This is easy reading and I believe kids of many ages would like this book.  This would make an excellent Christmas gift!

Sarah-2017-002

Sarah Young’s devotional writings are personal reflections from her daily quiet time of Bible reading, praying, and writing in prayer journals. With sales of more than 25 million books worldwide, Jesus Calling has appeared on all major bestseller lists.

Jesus Calling was written to help people connect not only with Jesus, the living Word, but also with the Bible-the only infallible, inerrant Word of God. Sarah endeavors to keep her devotional writing consistent with that unchanging standard.

Sarah spends a great deal of time in prayer, reading the Bible, and memorizing Scripture. She especially enjoys praying daily for readers of all her books.

28 09 2018

Horse Gentler cover

Now younger readers can saddle up and join Winnie and her family at the Willis Wyoming Ranch!
Winnie is the star of the bestselling Winnie the Horse Gentler series that sold more than half a million copies and taught kids around the world about faith, kindness, and horse training. Winnie could ride horses before she could walk, but training them is another story. In this new series, eight-year-old Winnie learns the fine art of horse gentling from her horse wrangler mom as they work together to save the family ranch.

When Winnie’s snobby classmate threatens to stop boarding his champion thoroughbred Princess at the Willis family ranch, Winnie has to come up with a tricky solution to convince him to let her stay. She learns that with God, all things are possible!

This is a very good book.  This will definitely be a Christmas gift to my grand-daughter.  Having not read any of the other books in this series, it was still easy to get into.

You really feel for Winnie.  She loves horses and wants to be like her mother who gentles them.  Mr. Green and his son, Austin, own Princess, who is from a racing line.  Princess is in need of gentling, but Austin wants to ride.  He has no desire to do anything of the preliminaries to becomes friends with Princess.  That’s where Winnie comes in.  She becomes friends with Princess, and the two come to trust one other.  To keep the ranch going, they have to keep Princess around.  Well, I’m not going to tell you the rest of the story.  You need to read all about it to see how this comes out.

100 BIBLE STORIES FOR CHILDREN

30 06 2018

bible stories cover

Instill a deep love of the narrative of the Bible in your children’s hearts with this richly illustrated storybook. 100 Bible Stories for Children uses beautiful, traditional art and clear language to teach children ages 5 to 8 one hundred of the best-loved stories from the Bible, and it includes a ribbon to mark your place. The detailed illustrations will captivate your children as you read with them at bedtime or at Sunday school, and independent readers will return again and again to learn the stories of the heroes of the faith. You and your family will treasure this classic collection of Bible stories.

I was a little disappointed in this book, as I felt as if the stories themselves needed to be expounded.  What they emitted or condensed completely changed what had really happened.  I feel as if they needed to be more true to what the Word says.  I understand that they did this for children, but I would prefer the children know what happened correctly.  So, that is why I gave a 3 out of 5 stars.

THE PUSH

12 03 2018

the push cover

When Marcus moved next door to John, they knew instantly they’d be friends. Now John and Marcus do almost everything together. They go on lots of adventures, with Marcus pushing John’s wheelchair and John fueling their escapades with jokes. Through their friendship, the boys discover that their unique gifts make them stronger together.

Based on the friendship of real-life best friends Patrick Gray and Justin Skeesuck, The Push teaches kids that people of all abilities have important roles to play and that we’re all better together than we are on our own.

This is a very enjoyable book about friendship.  We have a tendency to look at the outside…what that person looks like.  But these two boys saw something on the inside of each.  One in a wheelchair; one not.  But their strengths and weaknesses complimented each other.  The best part of this book was how the one boy helped his wheelchair-bound friend go places he normally would not have been able to.  Also, with this being based on the lives of the writer and the illustrator made this book that much better.

Patrick Gray

Patrick Gray has always had a love for writing.  Patrick spent time as a biologist, a construction worker, a high school teacher, a nurse, and a hospital service line director.  He now works with his best friend, Illustrator Justin Skeesuck at Push, Inc., where they help people overcome limitations in their lives.  Patrick lives in Idaho with his wife, Donna, and their three children.

Justin Skeesuck

John Skeesuck has enjoyed a successful career as a graphic designer for many years.  When a progressive neuromuscular disease robbed him of the use of his hands, he had to change course with his career.  Justin lives in Idaho with his wife, Kirstin, and their three children.

WHEN GOD MADE LIGHT

12 02 2018

cover photo

‘Let there be light!’ that’s what God said. And light began shining and then started to spread.” Wild and creative illustrations from top children’s illustrator David Catrow pair with Matthew Paul Turner’s lyrical verse in this message of a God-made light that cuts through darkness to bring vision and hope to all young readers. This light radiates, chasing away the shadows, providing the wonder and fun of stargazing or firefly chasing. Most important, this light appears in each child–an inner God-given spark that grows and will be used to change the world.

This is a very good book that the very young will enjoy.  When God Made Light is written in a poetic fashion, which makes it easy to read.  The illustrations are beautiful and go along with the storyline well.  I especially liked how it ended in that God made you as a light.
