THE HEART’S INVISIBLE FURIES

Cyril Avery is not a real Avery — or at least, that’s what his adoptive parents tell him. And he never will be. But if he isn’t a real Avery, then who is he?

Born out of wedlock to a teenage girl cast out from her rural Irish community and adopted by a well-to-do if eccentric Dublin couple via the intervention of a hunchbacked Redemptorist nun, Cyril is adrift in the world, anchored only tenuously by his heartfelt friendship with the infinitely more glamourous and dangerous Julian Woodbead. At the mercy of fortune and coincidence, he will spend a lifetime coming to know himself and where he came from – and over his many years, will struggle to discover an identity, a home, a country, and much more

I was very disappointed in this book, in which I was unable to finish.  I put this in the category of smut.  You start out with incest, then go on to homosexuality, murder, tax evasion, and even trying to buy a jury off.  This book is also full of obscene sexually suggestive scenes, especially toward homosexuality.  I could not believe that you would have 7 year olds having a tendency toward this crude act.  If you could rate thisin the minus category, I would do that. This is like John Boyne wanted to get just about every sin in one book.

John Boyne

John Boyne is an Irish novelist, born in 1971. His first short story was published in 1993 in the Sunday Tribune and was shortlisted for a Hennessy Literary Award. He is the author of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Knock Down Ginger, Noah Barleywater Runs Away, and The Terrible Thing that Happened to Barnaby Brocket. His books have been translated into over 50 languages. He lives in Dublin.

Fire on the Track has to do with women in the Olympics in the Track and Field division. This story follows Betty Robinson, when she was 16, beginning with the 1928 Stockholm Olympics. There was much controversy over the women in this division, saying that they should not be doing what only men could do. Also, Betty’s come-back after an airplane crash is nothing short of complete perseverance.

The author, Roseanne Montillo is the author of two other works of nonfiction, The Lady and her Monsters and The Wilderness of Ruin. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College, where she taught courses on the intersection of literature and history. She lives outside of Boston.

This book captured my attention from the get go. Very interesting. Betty Robinson captured the hearts of many when she had to break through the “all male” sport of Track and Field. All…

Whisper is a very informative book about different ways you hear from God. There are 7 “Love Languages” of how He speaks to us. He speaks through Scripture, Desires, Doors that get opened and closed, Dreams, People, Promptings, and the hardest – Pain. As Mark Batterson puts it “God wants us to hear what He is saying, and we must heed His voice.”

Mark Batterson is the lead pastor of National Community Church, one church with eight campuses in Washington, DC. Learn more at http://www.markbatterson.com.
This book had me riveted. Awesome! It made me think and take stock of myself. I highly recommend this book. I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.

JUST READ CHARLES DICKENS BOOK ‘THE CHRISTMAS CAROL’.  VERY INTERESTING.  I REMEMBER SEEING THE MOVIE MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT WAS NICE TO SEE IN MY MIND’S EYE WHAT THE AUTHOR REALLY WANTED YOU TO SEE.  IT IS JUST TOO BAD THAT IT TOOK SO LONG FOR SCROOGE TO LEARN HIS LESSON…BUT ISN’T ALL HUMANITY THE SAME WAY?  WE SEEM TO HAVE TO LEARN THE LESSON THE HARD WAY.  BUT TO SEE HIM DO A COMPLETE TURN-AROUND WAS WONDERFUL!  MY, BUT HOW HE CHANGED.  MAY WE CHANGE LIKE HE DID.

Just read Left Behind…very riveting.  Keeps you glued to it from beginning to end.  This is about being left behind when God takes His people away at the rapture.  Is there a second chance for those who, will be left behind?  What will happen?  It’s good that the authors put in the plan of salvation…just what does it all mean, what do you do?  This is a must read!
