A PSALM FOR EVERY SEASON

Author: Arnold R. Fleagle

Illustrator: Timothy R. Botts

Reviewer: Cris Hoxie

Review: This is a very good book!  The Book of Psalms is one of my favorites from the Bible, so I have read it many times, but Arnold Fleagle has a way of opening new things that I had not thought of before.  This is a book that needed to be digested, as there were things in here that convicted me of things I needed to change in my life.  Timothy Botts also did an awesome job with the calligraphy illustrations.  That was beautiful!  This is a definite must read.

Synopsis: The men and women of the Bible turned to the Psalms for inspiration in both their deepest tragedies and their greatest triumphs.

Centuries later, we still find comfort and wisdom in the words of this timeless book.

With depth and insight, Dr. Arnold Fleagle explores 30 poignant passages in the Psalms, showing how their unchanging truths address virtually every facet of the human experience. Complete with a takeaway thought and prayer, each entry in this beautiful devotional comes to life through captivating artwork from renowned calligrapher Timothy Botts.

Whether you are on the mountaintop of praise and celebration or walking through the dark valley of grief and desperation, this journey through the Psalms offers encouragement and hope for every season of your life.

Frontier Matches – Book 2

Author: Regina Scott

Reviewer: Cris Hoxie

Review: This was a very good book that I had problems putting it down.  Regina Scott did an excellent job in capturing your attention from the very beginning.  You have a love triangle.  You have possible kidnapping.

Ciara has moved to the frontier of Wallin Lake from Seattle to open a restaurant and cook for the lumbermen.  One of the lumbermen, Kit, has been given the duty of taking care of his niece after his sister and her husband passed away.  Also, little Grace’s grandmother comes calling saying she is taking the little girl back with her, saying the will is a forgery.  What all comes of all of this?  Meanwhile, Ciara has been helping Kit with little Grace, but will the love sparks hit them?  You will need to read the book to find the answers to these questions and more.  Be ready to be so caught up in this story that you won’t want to lay the book down!

Synopsis: Ciara O’Rourke learned to bake sweet treats from the best, her older sister. Now determined to step out on her own, she agrees to start the first cookhouse at Wallin Landing, a tiny settlement north of frontier Seattle. But nothing goes as planned, from the local loggers, who seem more interested in courting than being paying customers, to the baby who’s thrust into her arms by a stranger who rides off whispering warnings.

Kit Weatherly sailed away from his controlling family on a tea clipper to explore the world. He’s since found a true family in the Wallin Landing logging crew. That is, until the pretty new cook informs him he’s uncle to a niece he never knew he had! One look in little Grace’s face, and Kit knows he’ll do anything to protect her. And one taste of Ciara’s cooking has him wondering what he’d have to do to convince her to take a chance on them both.

If you like warm, witty historical romances with intelligent heroines, dashing heroes, and well-researched historical details, then you’ll love this frontier romance by an award-winning author.

Regina Scott

Bio: Regina Scott started writing novels in the third grade. Thankfully for literature as we know it, she didn’t actually sell her first novel until she’d learned a bit more about writing. Since then, she’s had published more than 60 works of warm, witty historical romance, and more than 1 million copies of her books are in reader hands.

Her books have earned praise from reviewers and readers alike. Booklist calls her work “quietly compelling” and “impeccably written.” She has twice been awarded best book of the year for her type of story from industry favorite RT Book Reviews. A Distance Too Grand in the American Wonders Collection was named one of the top 10 romances of the year by Booklist.

Regina Scott has learned to fence, driven four-in-hand, sailed on a tall ship, and dressed as a Regency dandy, all in the name of research, of course. She makes her home in the Puget Sound area of Washington State with her beloved husband.
